Frank and Gloria's Pinscher page
This part of pinscher corner relates to Frank and Gloria "Kinrha" Cuthbert.

This is a comprehensive coverage of the GERMAN PINSCHER DOG, an important rare breed almost lost, but now making a comeback. It covers the history and origins of the breed and, as a background, examines the relationship to other ancient breeds which include the Spitz and the Pinschers. The author goes into the background of the breed showing the present day position.
Appearance and conformation are examined in detail. Temperament and training are also considered. Special attention is paid to the colour and care of the coat, dealing with any problems which might arise.
Topics such as obtaining a puppy and rearing it as well as having a pet or a show dog are covered. The status of the breed in the UK and abroad is considered, and little known facts on the breed are made available from the research studies conducted.
Gloria Cuthbert, with husband Frank, are both deeply involved in all Pinscher activities but with their advancing years and a kennel of many elderly Pinschers, showing has been somewhat curtailed of late. The culmination of Gloria's career in dogs, along with the publication of this book, will be in the year 2000 when she will be honoured and delighted to judge her beloved Pinscher breed at Crufts.

A rare breed of dog believed to have dwindled to just one pair in Germany in the 1950s is thriving at the home of a breeder on the Hogs Back at Seale. With seven pups* to look after, Glona Cuthbert has had to cancel her visit to the Discover Dogs exhibition at Earls Court on November 7 and 8th. where she was due to promote the Pinscher breed. Mrs Cuthbert is already the owner of the oldest Pinscher in the UK, 16-year-old Rhana who is a great great great grandmother and who came to her as a pup.
"I would like to see the breed more popular and I cannot see why they are not. They are a nice size for a house, very clean and very companionable, though they can be possessive of their families if they are not curbed," she explained. The Pinscher looks just like a small Doberman but is actually a more ancient breed from which the Doberman originated, once known as "the cur of Europe" because they were general farm dogs. After near extinction their numbers grew to about 60 throughout Germany and Scandinavia, before arriving in this country in 1979. Their particular talent is for exterminating vermin, Mrs Cuthbert explained. They will sit for hours in concentration at an opening, be it rat hole or letter box, and the minute something moves they grab it ! "
*The puppies mentioned are a result of a happy collaboration between Gloria and Jenny England involving Gloria's USA-bred imported Bentley (Luzlor Bentley at Kinrha) and Jenny England's UK-bred Ember (Swanwite Black Silhouette at Pallahaxi). The pedigree is interesting and the collaboration of pooled resources perhaps an example of what can be done to promote and establish rare breeds.
